Captain Daniel chose to field and from ball one we knew it would be competitive. Their opener hit a six off the first ball of the innings and by the end of six very good balls they had scored 19! From then on it was a different story and we bowled and fielded very well with players remembering to guard the stumps and back up to allow their team mates to go for run outs. Aarayan, Stan, Adam, Caolan and Dhani bowled very well to take plenty of wickets but everyone played a big part and kept the total to chase down to 67.
The Whalley Range players got off to a sticky start with two needless run outs in the first over and two other wickets leaving us on -12 after an over and a bit! However from that point on we were the stronger side with good running, shot selection and power from all batters against some fast and accurate bowling. Special mention to Aarayan who blasted two big sixes and played fine shots to good straight bowling.π
Into the last over and we needed 7 to win which made for a great finale. Nayan and Dhani made a good fist of it and Dhani struck one ball so hard that the bowler couldnβt move his hands to stop it, but sadly his chest got in the way meaning we ended up a 6 runs short of our target.
However, everyone should be very proud of themselves and the coaches can see that the future for this very young team and WRCC juniors is very bright. Well done. π ππ
