A warm summer evening at WRCC saw our U9s take on Brooklands CC for the second time in consecutive days. 

Wiping the moorland ash from his eyes our captain Austin lost the toss but won his side the chance to stay in the shade for the first innings. 

Our opening pair got us off to a thrilling start with Jimmy and Austin regularly stealing apparently unachievable singles and knocking the ball to the boundary at regular intervals.

Dhani and Alfie followed suit with straight drives and pull shots galore and the pair finished unbeaten against some good bowling.

Zachary and Khalil mixed style and power with risky running but by the end of they innings they had put us in a strong position, which was finished off by Ethan and Remi who piled on the boundaries with some dexterous cut shots and sweeping. 

Having set a record target the boys were confident of defending it. However the coach was aware that the ground was rock hard and the boundaries tight. 

The bowlers performed well throughout with Jimmy and Alfie using the smokey breeze to  drift the ball into the batters with Jimmy in particular bowling his best spell of the season although his figures don’t show it👏. There were also wickets for Khalil, Austin, Alfie, Dhani and Ethan and Zachary.

Inspite of a heavy onslaught from the Brooklands batters in the final overs the fielders were well marshalled by captain Austin and Dhani who was everywhere all at once, (to the point that it seemed that he was backing himself up!) and the Rangers came out on top.
