A stunning 50 from Yaqoob and a fantastic team performance saw the U9s beat Didsbury by 39 runs.
Nayan and Stan gave Whalley Range a strong start, running well together as Stan struck three classy boundaries.
Improved communication between Zachary and Fin produced some excellent running between the wickets.
Dhani blasted four boundaries in a positive innings. Meanwhile, Caolan rotated the strike well. His classical technique and straight bat provides a great example for others to follow.
Captain Patrick scored at better than a run a ball in a lively knock featuring a delicious boundary.
But the star of today's show was Yaqoob...
Like a darts player laying a marker, Yaqoob took a leisurely single for his first run. Then the fireworks began.
The 18-ball innings contained eight fours and two sixes. As destructive as it sounds there was no slogging. Just some very, very good batting. This was a special innings.
Still needing 12 from the final three deliveries to make the milestone, the crowd were on the edge of their camp chairs with excitement! A six followed by a four left it down to the last ball. The pair understood the assignment, running quickly to scramble the two required. And history was made!
Whalley Range finished on 325.
Full of confidence, Yaqoob opened the bowling. He bowled well and deserved more from his two overs than a single wicket.
In a rare sight, both Yaqoob and Patrick hit the stumps without dislodging the bails before Patrick finally claimed his wicket with another direct hit - a solid all round performance from today's captain.
Zachary and Fin kept Didsbury's scoring in check, while Stan's pace repeatedly beat the batters, missing the stumps by the narrowest of margins.
Dhani claimed three wickets, including one with his first competitive googly. It was a beauty - more of these please Dhani! And Caolan's accurate spell included three wickets in a single over - unplayable stuff for the batters!
Whalley Range completed a superb all-round performance to win by 39 runs.
Without doubt, there were some outstanding individual performances today. But most pleasing for me was seeing the players gel as a team, supporting and encouraging each other to succeed.
