U15 Girls – Another League Win!
On the road for the final league game of the season, the girls arrived at Wythenshawe CC to what felt like a party atmosphere, with a function in the clubhouse and a bouncy castle on the outfield!
The toss was lost, and WRCC were once again put in to bat, stepping out into the bright sunshine determined to set a competitive target.
The conditions were reflected in a bright start from the openers. There was a brief wobble as the first – and only – wicket fell, but the innings soon stabilised, with the bowlers struggling to make another breakthrough. Runs came steadily rather than quickly, but a retirement from Hattie (33*) and a late push from Sanji and Daisy saw the girls finish on 87, setting Wythenshawe 88 to win.
In response, Wythenshawe looked confident. However, a change to the usual opening bowling attack, combining left-arm pace with right-arm off-spin, kept the batters on the back foot. An early breakthrough from Daisy (1/9) in the third over kept the run rate in check, but Wythenshawe settled and began to accelerate. As the sun started to dip, an ominous chill crept into the air and the home side edged closer to the target. Could they sense victory?
WRCC began to feel the pressure but never let their fielding intensity drop. A beautifully flighted delivery from Martha (1/16) tempted the batter into a top edge that looped high into the air, where Olive, making her debut for the team, safely held the catch. With a new batter at the crease, the scoring rate slowed once more and, despite a determined effort from the opposition, Wythenshawe finished 14 runs short.
Congratulations to the girls! The victory extends their unbeaten league record, and while we await official confirmation, the results indicate they are the 2026 League Champions!
