U15s Lions vs Cheadle — Match Report (10.08.26)
Cheadle 102-4 (20 overs); Lions 105-3 (13.4 overs). Lions won by 7 wickets.
On another sunny, warm August evening, the Lions bounced back strongly from last week’s defeat with a convincing win over Cheadle.
Cheadle won the toss and elected to bat. The Lions started well, bowling tight lines and limiting scoring opportunities, with Ayaan and Zakki both picking up a wicket. The rest of the attack backed them up well, with Hashim and Isabella, in particular, bowling with excellent control. If we are being super critical, a few extra singles, several misfields and a couple of missed catches meant Cheadle reached 102-4, when they might otherwise have been restricted to nearer 90. But overall a really positive display in the fielding.
In reply, Cheadle began brightly, with their opening bowler swinging the ball to remove Maxim before Ayaan edged behind off the other opener. Zakki (34) weathered the early storm, while Zayyan (43 off 24) counter-attacked brilliantly to relieve the pressure and quickly take the game away from Cheadle. A brisk cameo from Raphy then helped the Lions move swiftly to the target, closing the net run-rate gap on Timperley in the process.
Elsewhere, an exciting Timperley–Sale local derby looked for a while as though an upset might be on the cards, before Timperley got over the line with an over to spare. The equation remains clear: the Lions still need to win their final two games. Then we rely on other results going our way.
